A suspect in the threats made against the SMSD schools has been arrested. Based upon information provided by the Senatobia Municipal School District, the Senatobia Police Department conducted an investigation into the threats made against the school this week. Within four hours of today’s threat, SPD served a search warrant at a residence in Sardis and took the suspect believed to be responsible for threats made on Monday (April 8) and today (Wednesday, April 10) into custody. The suspect is not a Senatobia Municipal School District student. SMSD’s highest priority is the safety of our students and staff. We would like to thank the Senatobia Police Department and all other cooperating law enforcement agencies for their quick response, thorough investigation, and the apprehension of the suspect. Thank you to our community for your support as we navigated this issue. Our staff moved quickly to ensure the safety of our students. Our students were responsible, ready, and respectful throughout the process. The response of our staff and students to the challenges of these past days makes us all proud to be Warriors. Chris D. Fleming, SMSD Superintendent

Warriors, we are all very concerned about the recent rash of threats to our schools. We share in the community's frustration. Our district is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with our community about safety issues when they arise. There was an arrest made in the incident from last Thursday, April 4th within four hours of the incident, and that case is working its way through the justice system. Suspects have been identified in the threat from Monday. Law enforcement is actively investigating the threat from today, April 10th. None of the perpetrators are students of the Senatobia Municipal School District. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are doing all that we can to bring the perpetrators to justice. Again, thank you to our staff and law enforcement officers for quickly enacting our safety protocols. Thank you to our community for your support and understanding. As always, our counselors will be available to talk with students if needed.

ARC of Northwest MS parent meeting on Monday, April 22, 2024 in the SMSD Parent Center at 5:30 p.m.
Safety Precautions for Students and Parents - If parents choose to allow their child to participate in the viewing event, parents are encouraged to go over safety guidelines with their child in advance. The eclipse glasses provided by the district must be kept on at all times during viewing and removing glasses, even temporarily, may have serious effects on the participant's eyes. Students should be encouraged to take breaks and look away from the sun to give their eyes a rest. Even with eclipse glasses, students should not stare continuously at the sun. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's optometrist or ophthalmologist if they have concerns about their child's participation. If your school or your child is not participating in this event, we still want to encourage parents to talk to their children about safety precautions regarding the eclipse. The totality of the eclipse will begin about 12:30 p.m. and end around 3:10 p.m. Even if a parent does not want their child to participate in a viewing event, students may be outside during class changes, athletic practices, school dismissal, etc. during this 2.5-hour period. As a result, parents should review safety procedures with their children and remind them to never look at the sun without special eye protection.
